COMMUNICATION

Communication is the dissemination of information from one place to another.  Before the advent of the modern means of communication there were the traditional means of disseminating messages among the people these include: gongs, town criers, talking drums etc. these are ways village heads used to pass messages across to the people or villagers. Communication started a long time or ages ago.
We can simply say that communication refers to any procedure through which messages or information can be transmitted from one person to another.
There are three components of communication which should be in place for an effective communication to take place, they includes:
1.       The Sender: - The person who gives out a message.
2.       The Message itself or what is conveys.
3.       The Receiver: - The person who the message is directed to. He can also be the beneficiary of the message.
Communication is every important to man in all his daily activities. Through communication man learns to react and get things done.
THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATION
Communication can be seen as a vehicle of thought. It is a means of expression and a means whereby the message of a person or a group is convey to another. When it is received and acted upon then we have a feedback which refers to the receipt and reaction of a message or it could be refer to as the reply of a message. The reply of a message often denotes that there was a message sent and received.
The role played by communication in man’s activities cannot be overemphasized. Talking about Trade as general activities which are common to all. Trade cannot develop properly without some means of communication.  Since it requires exchange which could not occur without communicating with people, the more developed a communication system is, the wider the market for goods and services will be.
Early means of communication relied on the spoken word and on primitive implements. A modern method involves the use of telex machines and satellites.
IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATIONS
Below is some listed importance of communication:
1.       It increases demand: The demand for goods and services could be increased through effective communication. This is usually achieved through extensive advertisement or the creating of awareness of the existence a new line of product to the public.

2.        Communication could also be a form of proper interaction and co-operation between employers and employees.


3.       It enhances Mail Order Business: This is a business which is transacted through the post office. It is a communication based business, a business which cannot survive without communication. Since this business is done through the post office then it is communicative in nature.

4.       It promotes exchanges: Communication aids commerce in the sense that it helps to educate consumers on the usage of products. It helps to make the presence of goods known to potential consumers.  The cost of renting the private mail bags is higher than the cost of the post office boxes.


5.       Goods and services are made known to potential buyers through communication.

6.       Information on government economic and commercial policies gets to businessmen through communication.


7.       The whole world has become a global village through communication various businesses can be transacted through the help of communications.

8.       It facilitates payments for goods and services.


9.       Communication eliminates the cost and risk of travelling or carrying huge cash around.
In every activity man must communicate with one another and this is a fact of all business concern. It is a known fact that businesses without a proper communication system suffers adversely because there will not be a response or feedback from customers concerning it products whether it is positive or negatively affecting them. It brings to mind what kind of relationship business concerns have with the consuming public?
