WHO IS A DIRECTOR?
A Director is an interpreter. He
organizes the artistic and aesthetic interpretation of a play. The puts all the
production crew together to work for the purpose of the theatre. He is refers
to as an oracle.
WHAT IS DIRECTING?
Directing is the act and science
of organizing all the theatre arms or forces together to achieve the goals of
the theatre. These theatrical forces
include:

Characters to interprets the script on stage
2.
The Costumier
3.
Lighting technician
4.
The house management or theatre management
5.
Scenic designer
6.
The raw material which is the scripts
7.
Actors to interprets the scripts
8.
The place to interpret the play e.g. stage, streets,
market square e.g.
9.
Audience to consume the theatrical product.
RESPONSIBILITY OF
A DIRECTOR
The responsibility of a director includes:
1.
He fix rehearsal time table
2.
He takes charge of the casting
3.
He takes blockings during rehearsals
4.
He ensures discipline in all rehearsals
5.
He interprets the play artistically and aesthetically
6.
He is the all in all of the production
7.
He appoints his production crew
8.
He ensures success of the production.
ROLES OF A
DIRECTOR
The roles of a director include:
1.
He makes all creative decision concerning the
production
2.
He selects the script
3.
He selects the artistic member of staff and key
cast
4.
He approves the artistic design of the play
5.
He leads the rehearsal work of the performer
6.
He creates a style that ensures the integrity of
his dramatic product.
Though the director is not seen on
stage yet he remains the brain and oracle of the production. He is an indispensible
force in every production because every production needs him and his creativeness
and artistic touch as there is no production without a director.
