MAKE-UP MISTRESS The function of the make-up mistress includes: 1.       To check with director on requirements as soon as the audition is over. 2.       She makes diagrams and chart for each cast; lighting and other materials 3.       She checks with the lighting designer on gel color for each scene. 4.       After each night she must make sure that the make-up arena is clean and all material stored at their proper place. 5.       During the striking-of-set she cleans up the area and report to the stage manager on further notice By: Eguriase S. LIGHT DESIGNER A light designer has the responsibility of creating the mood or locale of a production through light illumination. He must study the script with the director thoroughly and discuss his lighting concept with the director before drawing up his design plan. It is necessary for the light designer to interact well with his crew members and maintain a high level of discipline. He must ensure that the lighting boot is kept orderly and clean at all times. He must not allow non-crew members to get into the lighting boot. He must not permit eating or drinking in the lighting boot at any time. He must turn-on the lighting board at the beginning of a performance and turn-off after each performance. He must check and re-check his skills and must know who will give them and who must take them. He must take inventory of all gels. STAGE MANAGER BY EGURIASE S. M. OKAKA Where there is no assistant director the Stage Manager(SM) takes the responsibility of the assistant director to assist the director in all aspect of his work as the director may instruct him. In addition to this, the stage manager must carry out the following duties: 1.       Obtain a ground plan and mark the rehearsal area before the first rehearsal. 2.       Mark his working script with cues for sound, light, curtains etc, as soon as such cues are set. 3.       Attend all rehearsals to know the production well and familiar with the cast. 4.       Identify problems early enough in order to find solution to them just in time. As a matter of convention this must be done before audition. The director always assisted by the assistant director in the following ways: 1.       Obtain from the director the rehearsal schedule, paste and make it up to date. 2.       He must be the first at the rehearsal before others and make the stage ready for the day’s activities. 3.       Keeping records of all blockings and stage direction and concerning interpretations. 4.       Taking director’s note as he dictated during rehearsals. 5.       Making sure that rehearsal area is clean and in a good order after rehearsal, he put furniture in their place and turn-off light in the theatre. 6.       He should be...

The director is able to familiarize the cast with the mastering of the lines and the interpretation of the play and the characterization of their roles. This is where the various elements of the theater are brought together into a unified whole. Rehearsals are testing ground for production through which play is mime and acted scene after scene or Act after Act on daily basis where both the director and the cast can see the interpretation coming to life.
