Education as a weapon by Eguriase S.M. Okaka A weapon is an instrument of offensive of defensive combat; something to fight with; anything used, or designed to be used, in destroying, defeating, or injuring an enemy, as a gun, a sword, etc. That is where I likened, education as a weapon of offense and defense. Those who fought for Nigeria's independence on October 1st 1960, did not fight with guns, bombs and their likes rather they fought with their education. The West African Pilot was a newspaper launched in Nigeria by Nnamdi Azikiwe ("Zik") in 1937, dedicated to fighting for independence from British colonial rule. It is most known for introducing popular journalism within Nigeria. The main focus of the newspaper was to promote Nigerian independence from colonial rule. The aforementioned fact shows that education is still a veritable weapon in the hands of those who own it. All the credit goes to Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and others who joined in the fight for our independence. On October 1st, 1960 Nigeria gained her independence from the British colonial masters. In October 1st 1963, Nigeria became a Republican nation and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe became the first executive president of Nigeria. That tells you that there is power in education.

However, contentment does not mean that a person should not make genuine efforts to have more things of life but only requires that he or she is not desperate in the efforts he or she makes. A content person cannot say I must get it at all cause. If he does, he is no longer a contented person but a desperate person. Contentment and desperation are two parallel lines which cannot meet in any way. Contented people regard whatever they have as the will of God. This is the key to fulfillment, freedom and security.
