Family Bond and Living Together as One Family By Eguriase S. M. Okaka Every member of the society belongs to a family and that is why it is often said that the family is an off-shoot of the society. We can define a family as a group of people who are related by blood, and in most cases live together. There are two major types of family structures: the Nuclear and the Extended family structure. The nuclear family structure is the type of family that is made up by a father, mother and their child or children living together without any other family member living with them. The nuclear family structure is the smallest family unit in the world. The extended family structure is made up of your father’s relatives and your mother’s relatives. These includes: uncles, aunties, cousins, nephews, nieces, grandpa and grandma, etc. A family is always made up of two sides: the father’s side and the mother’s side, that is, the case of most African people. The extended family structure is the largest family structure in the world.
